What is Monte Digital?

The forest inventory is the main basic tool that describes the structure of the forest mass (understood to be the set of trees in the forest) and quantifying its renewable resources.

Traditionally, the forest status of the area has been carried out through a count with a step-by-step count or by sampling with plots. Both methods require a large amount of time and human resources to be carried out correctly.

Monte Digital arises from the grouping of university teachers and professionals from the private sector who come together to provide an effective and efficient solution in the inventory of the forest through the incorporation of technology in the measurement processes.

The Monte Digital Operational Group has generated a methodology for the automated data collection without needing to touch the tree in anyway, based on the generation of point clouds obtained by means of innovative mobile ground-based laser scanner equipment that operate continuously.

To this end, specific software has been developed that allows the point clouds to be interpreted, transforming them into dendrometric and dasometric parameters in an automated way, significantly improving the precision of inventories and significantly reducing costs.

As a consequence, proper management will allow obtaining resources and income on a regular basis that will result in a high ecological benefit, reduction of fire risks and economic-social benefits, by generating economic wealth in the sector.
